Active Duty Tuition Assistance

Don’t worry: we can help you fit an education into your service schedule. CIAT proudly offers Active Duty Tuition Assistance for service members. As part of your military benefits, tuition assistance can cover up to $250 for each semester credit hour with a personal maximum of $4,500 per fiscal year per student.

Post 9/11 GI Bill® Benefits

The Post 9/11 GI Bill® is an educational benefit for military personnel who have served on active duty for at least 90 days after 9/10/2001, or who were discharged with a service-related disability after 30 consecutive days. This bill can cover up to 100% of your tuition, includes a monthly housing allowance, and can help offset the cost of books and fees.

MyCAA Scholarship Programs

Your VA benefits don’t end with you: they also extend to your spouse and children thanks to the Military Spouse Career Advancement Account (MyCAA). This assistance package provides a maximum benefit of $4,000 with an annual fiscal cap of $2,000 that can be used to advance you, your spouse, or child’s pursuit of an associate’s degree or professional certification from one of our approved programs.

  • What type of financial aid is available?

    There are two different types of federal financial aid available, grants and loans. Grants are funds given out on an at-need basis and it is not required for you to pay them back. Loans are borrowed funds that you must repay with interest.

  • How much financial aid can I receive?

    Your financial aid package will be based on your eligibility and need. The first step toward determining these factors is to complete your FAFSA online application.

  • Where do I apply for FASFA?

    You can conveniently complete your online application at studentaid.ed.gov/sa/fafsa.

  • What is the FASFA application process like?

    There are three steps in the FASFA process. You can learn more about each process on our Financial Aid page.

  • When do I get my funds?

    You must sign your Master Promissory Note (MPN) before you can receive any student loans. Student loan funds may post to your school account within the first two weeks of the first day of the term. Any questions regarding a delay in financial aid disbursement should be directed to our Office of Financial Aid. You can also obtain more information here.

  • What is the school/institution code for CIAT?

  • Who is my financial aid counselor?

    If your last name begins with a letter from A to L, your counselor is Andre Daniels (adaniels@ciat.edu). If your last name begins with a letter from M to Z, your counselor is Andre Daniels (adaniels@ciat.edu).

  • What is an MPN?

    MPN stands for Master Promissory Note. This is a legal document that promises you will repay your loan(s) and any interest and fees to the US Department of Education. It also explains the terms and conditions of your loan(s).

  • What does the cost of attendance include?

    Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation, and other educational costs. You can also meet with a financial aid officer to discuss itemized totals for expenses.

  • I have been awarded a Pell Grant. When will I receive my funds?

    Refunds are issued when there is a credit balance to a student’s account. Upon receipt of any type of financial aid (veterans’ education benefits, scholarships, loans, grants, etc.), the funds are first posted against any balance owed. When a credit balance is created, a refund may be issued at that time.

  • What campus is the Office of Career Services located?

    The Office of Career Services is located in the administration office at our National City campus and is open Mon-Fri from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • What assistance does the Office of Career Services offer?

    Our Office of Career Services offers a variety of resources to set you up for success. Some of them consist of job search assistance, resume and cover letter critiques, interview guidance, career and professional development, and more.

  • How do I get help with my resume?

    Priscilla Leyva, our resume expert, is available Mon-Thu from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. for all your resume needs at our Office of Career Services. To request an appointment, please email pleyva@ciat.edu or call (619) 535-6936 to reserve your spot.

  • Where do I find job placement assistance?

    We have numerous resources to assist you in your career exploration. Make an appointment to discuss your individual goals or stop by the Office of Career Services Mon-Thu from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • How can the Office of Career Services help me find an internship or employment?

    We work with students who have completed their certifications to find employment with more than 200 companies and recruiters. Please reach out to our Career Services Coordinator, Priscilla Leyva, at pleyva@ciat.edu or 619-535-6936 to make an appointment to review your resume and job options.

  • What types of employers does CIAT work with to get students hired?

    We work with a wide range of employers including Begelectric, Booz Allen Hamilton, Manpower Technical, Northrup Grumman, Qualstaffing for Information Technology, and Decypher Technologies. We also work closely with the San Diego Workforce Partnership to offer paid internships for our students, along with Computer 2 Kids, San Diego (C2K) for non-paid internships that require little experience.

  • Why do I need to meet with career services to review my resume?

    It is important to have an up-to-date, well-written, and well-formatted resume to make it easy for hiring managers, HR professionals, and applicant tracking systems to scan it.

    Typically, you only have 10 seconds to impress the person reading your resume, and if they do not see any skills that align with the position they are looking to fill, they will move on to the next applicant. With a well-written resume that highlights your skills and accomplishments, you will significantly boost your chances of landing an interview in this highly competitive market.

  • What good will it do me to go to career services?

    The Office of Career Services is committed to providing you with the tools you’ll need to succeed. Regardless of whether you already have a job lined up, are a transitioning military professional, or are new to the IT field, there are plenty of ways you can utilize the support and guidance offered through our Office of Career Services.

    Our office provides you with the resources necessary for all aspects of your professional goals such as resume and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, career counseling, job search techniques, career fairs, and more. Because of our well-established relationship with numerous employers, our office is usually the first to know about potential job openings and will refer qualified CIAT students.
