About ENG210 – Public Speaking

This course provides guided practice in public speaking and metacognitive skills development. Develops capabilities in speech resource material organization, outlining, presenting, and using tools effectively to reach the audience. Gains experience in public speaking.

  • Introduction to public speaking; managing nervousness; listening skills; reaching the audience
  • Selecting a topic – purpose, central idea; locating information; evaluating information and avoiding plagiarism
  • Supporting ideas; presentation aids; body of the speech
  • Introduction and Conclusion of a speech; outlining; wording; delivering
  • Speaking to inform; persuade and persuasive strategies
