Great news for those seeking San Diego tech jobs – Amazon is leasing office space in UTC! The new office is located at 10300 Campus Point Drive, and it measures in at almost 107,000 square feet.
Amazon hasn’t specified how many new San Diego tech jobs will be available, but the location has enough space for 500+ employees. The company has posted about 50 positions online, though, and most of them are tech/IT related. These include game development, software engineering, software development, security, and machine learning/data science jobs.
The Campus Pointe office complex has incredible amenities, like a fitness center and a soccer field. There are also trails for walkers and joggers, conference facilities, and a 3.5 acre organic garden. This garden is the source of fresh produce for celebrity chef Brian Malarkey’s on-site restaurant, Green Acre. Cooking show fans might recognize Malarkey from Top Chef – he was a finalist on season 3 – as well as The Taste, and Guy’s Grocery Games.
Last week Amazon announced that it would be accepting bids from cities that want to be the home for their second headquarter location – a project called HQ2. San Diego is one of the bidders, but this new office lease doesn’t guarantee that the company will expand here. There are at least ten other cities in the running, with more expected to apply in the coming weeks.
Having Amazon’s HQ2 won’t just raise the profile for whatever city is chosen – it also provides residents with a chance to make Amazon’s estimated average salary of $100,000 per year. San Diego tech job salaries like that could be a huge boost to the local economy, helping residents to afford the high cost of housing and gas.
San Diego is a perfect fit for major tech companies, because it offers them talent, resources, and amenities. With several major colleges, including California Institute of Arts & Technology (CIAT!), there are plenty of tech-savvy grads seeking careers. The city is also home to many tech start-ups, which can contribute resources, employees, and ideas. Of course, you can’t discount the appeal that sunny San Diego’s beaches, shopping, entertainment, and fine dining has to offer!
