* Private loans are available at both institutions.
Private student loans are credit-based, which means we will check your credit when you submit your application. Students are nearly 4 times more likely to be approved with a cosigner since many students haven’t had time to build up their own credit. A cosigner is someone who shares responsibility with you for paying back the loan and is often a parent, but can be any creditworthy adult.
Private Student Loan Eligibility
Private student loans, offered by banks and financial institutions, are based on your credit profile. Your credit—and your cosigner’s credit—are evaluated, along with other information provided on your application. Applying for a private student loan with a creditworthy cosigner may increase your chances for approval and may help get you a better rate, since many students haven’t had time to build up their own credit.
You should generally consider federal student loans first, and then take out a private student loan if you still need money for college.
Take advantage of competitive interest rates, deferred payments until after graduation, extra financial coverage to help you manage additional educational expenses over tuition costs, and more.

Which CIAT programs are eligible for Sallie Mae® loans?
All CIAT degree and certificate programs are eligible for Sallie Mae®'s private student loans. Sallie Mae® is a flexible option to help cover tuition, fees, and other qualified education expenses beyond what federal aid provides.
Do I need a cosigner for a private student loan?
While not always required, having a creditworthy cosigner can significantly increase your chances of getting approved for a private student loan. It may help you qualify for a lower interest rate. Many students still need to build up their credit history.
Why should I borrow for the entire school year?
Borrowing for the entire academic year, rather than just a single term, can simplify the process and provide you with the funds you need upfront. This allows you to focus on your studies without having to reapply for loans multiple times.
How long does it take to get approved for a Sallie Mae® loan?
Sallie Mae®'s application process is designed to be quick and efficient. Once you submit your completed application, you can typically receive a credit decision in as little as 15 minutes.
Can I qualify for a Sallie Mae® loan if I attend school online?
Yes, Sallie Mae® offers private student loans for students enrolled in 100% online degree and certificate programs like those offered at CIAT.
When do I start paying back my private student loan?
Sallie Mae® offers flexible payment options, including the ability to defer entire principal and interest payments until 3 months after you complete your program. You can also choose to make interest-only payments while in school.
What makes a student loan application creditworthy?
Private lenders like Sallie Mae® evaluate your credit history, income, assets, and employment status to determine your creditworthiness. Having a creditworthy cosigner can also significantly improve your chances of approval.
What information do I need when applying with a cosigner?
In addition to your personal and financial information, you'll need to provide details about your cosigner, including their name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and income/asset details.
