Successful graduates will be have their Microsoft certification, which denotes them as proficient in the use of the following Microsoft Office component programs:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Access
Prerequisites: Student must have proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment and be able to use a computer keyboard and mouse.
*Program is not eligible for FAFSA funding.
Upon completion of this program, the graduate will be able to use their Microsoft certification to:
- Create documents and correspondence utilizing Microsoft Word.
- Create spreadsheets and graphs utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- Create audio-visual presentations and “slideshows” utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Manage emails, appointments and schedules utilizing Microsoft Outlook.
- Create, maintain and query a relational database utilizing Microsoft Access.
225 credit hours required. All courses are required.

According to the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of secretaries and administrative assistants is projected to grow 5 percent from 2016 to 2026. Therefore, many job openings will result from the need to replace workers who leave the occupation. Those with work experience, particularly experience using computer software applications to do word processing and create spreadsheets, should have the best job prospects. Earning a Microsoft certification is one way to master these applications, as a result, improve job prospects.
The median annual wage for administrative assistants was $37,870 in April 2017.
