CIAT’s Grand Opening on Saturday, 6/2/18 was a huge success! Over 250 guests joined us as we celebrated the official opening of our National City campus. Read on for a full recap of the big day, including our favorite pics from the event!
The event began at 10 am, but many of our guests were here and ready to party before then. We checked them in and gave them the first of their CIAT swag: a raffle ticket (or two, for guests who registered in advance!), an event program/passport, and a reusable blue CIAT grocery tote.
Guests then had the option to complete a campus tour and earn more CIAT swag:
- Stop 1: Visit with our Admissions Team and get a CIAT branded USB car charger
- Stop 2: Visit with our Finance Team and get a CIAT branded gel pen
- Stop 3: Visit with our Records Team and get a CIAT branded chapstick
- Stop 4: Visit with our Student Services Team and get a CIAT branded selfie stick
The next stop was our Student Lounge area, where guests could enjoy coffee, donut holes, a variety of cold drinks, and catering from Lolita’s Mexican Food! We had trays upon trays of carne asada, pollo asada, rolled tacos, quesadillas, tortillas, rice, beans, salsa, and TONS of guacamole.
Our campus has a quiet Student Study room next to the Student Lounge, but it wasn’t quiet at all that Saturday. We had Jerry’s Photo Booth come out and set up an inflatable photo booth with free prints for our guests to take home. There was also a step and repeat banner that featured our CIAT logo – it was perfect for taking selfies in front of. Bonus – there was a special CIAT grand opening Snapchat filter available as well.
Jerry brought an assortment of props, and we provided our own fun options as well. We had a big frame that looked like an Instagram post, a video game scene, and lots of 8-bit/Minecraft props on hand.
There was also a gif option, which brought these shots to life!
Guests had more options for fun and education throughout the CIAT halls. They could observe classes in session, or meet with instructors to learn more about specific programs, classes, and certifications. Or, they could to play a Kahoots trivia game in one of our classrooms. We made up special tech and CIAT themed questions, and prizes available for winners.
At 11:30 we had our official ribbon cutting. Ron Garrison, Mayor of National City, gave a speech before the big cut. We were also pleased to welcome National City’s Vice Mayor, Albert Mendivil, along with members of the National City Chamber of Commerce. David Grepe, Project Coordinator, was enormously helpful in planning and executing this event. Board Chairman Stepheni Norton also spoke at the ceremony, and introduced our President and Founder, Jamie Doyle.
Jamie and his wife, Kim, used a giant (and heavy) pair of scissors to symbolically cut the ribbon. Apparently those ribbons are notoriously hard to cut through, so ours actually had a velcro section that we pulled apart!
Outside, we had Pablo from Jam’n 95.7 on site with his street team. They were playing music and giving away swag throughout the event. There was even a Plinko style game that gave everyone a chance to score prizes – anything from a 95.7 bumper sticker or keychain to a gas station gift card or concert tickets. Near the end of the event, Pablo helped us with the big tech raffle.
It was fun and exciting presenting tech prizes to the winning ticket holders! We gave away gift cards to Starbucks, Apple, and Netflix. Next up were a Kindle, an Amazon Fire Tablet, a FitBit, and a Series 1 Apple Watch. The grand prize was a 15 inch HP laptop with 1 TB of memory! Congrats to Zalma Matus on her big win!
