The Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Systems program provides the foundational skills required to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain network systems in business environments. Major topics covered include hardware technologies, operating systems, networking, routing, and security. This program prepares students for careers in a variety of positions including Information Security Technician, LAN Administrator, Junior Network Administrator, Technical Support Specialist, PC Technician, and IT Support Team Lead.

Prerequisites: Students must be high school graduates or possess their GED, and be able to navigate within a Microsoft Windows environment using a mouse and keyboard. This program is eligible for FAFSA funding.

What You'll Learn

Students who obtain their Associate in Applied Science in Computer Information Systems will be able to conceptualize and create multiple types of information systems. Students enrolled in our program will learn CIS design, trial, and coding. They’ll also become proficient in programming languages and methods utilized within the IT field.

AAS in Computer Information Systems is an applied science degree. Seventy-five percent of the program is dedicated to technical classes, while about 25% of it focuses on general education. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of network and computer systems administrators is projected to grow six percent in the next ten years. Demand for information technology workers should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks.

  • Perform essential steps in PC installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Install, configure and troubleshoot basic networking hardware, protocols, and services.
  • Discuss network infrastructure, cryptography, assessments, and audits within networks and networking environments.
  • Perform installation, configuration and troubleshooting of various operating systems and network operating systems.

Careers in CIS

The AAS in CIS degree will equip graduates with the technical skills needed to excel in a number of roles. Graduates of the program may be able to obtain entry-level positions in computer information systems. They’ll understand how to install, configure, and support a local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and internet systems. As part of future employment, they may monitor and test website performance and assist in network modeling, analysis, and planning.
